HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers who regularly use US 98 in Hernando County should prepare for potential delays starting early next week. The Florida Department of Transportation has announced a series of scheduled lane closures and flagging operations that will impact a specific stretch of the highway north of Brooksville.

The work zone is set to begin just north of the CR 491 intersection, better known as Citrus Way, and will extend to the area north of Landfill Road. According to the project schedule, the maintenance or construction activities are slated to run from Monday, March 2, through Friday, March 6.

To minimize the impact on night-time visibility and safety, the crews will be active during daylight hours, specifically between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

During these windows, motorists can expect to see flaggers stationed along the route to direct the flow of traffic through the restricted areas.

While the road will remain open, the shift to single-lane operations usually results in slower travel times, especially during peak morning and afternoon periods. Local authorities are encouraging commuters to leave a few minutes early or consider using Suncoast Parkway or other parallel routes to avoid the congestion.

Work crews will be present on the shoulder and within the roadway, so officials are reminding everyone to stay alert, put down mobile devices, and follow all posted speed limits within the work zone. As with most outdoor roadwork, this schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.
