President Donald Trump responded publicly to a new admission from former First Lady Jill Biden regarding her husband’s performance during their June 2024 presidential debate.
In a preview clip for an upcoming CBS News Sunday Morning interview with correspondent Rita Braver, Jill Biden disclosed that she initially feared former President Joe Biden was experiencing a medical emergency during the live broadcast. “I mean, as I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke’ – and it scared me to death,” she stated.
The June 2024 debate serves as a critical turning point in the election cycle, as the fallout from the event heightened intense public scrutiny regarding Joe Biden’s age and mental fitness, ultimately resulting in his decision to end his reelection campaign.
Following the release of the interview snippet, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to address the former first lady’s comments and offer his own perspective on the night’s events. Trump characterized the evening as a “spectacular, and highly rated” performance on his part and questioned the timeline of her reaction.
“Jill Biden is now out there finally admitting that she did NOT know what went wrong with Sleepy Joe during our spectacular, and highly rated, 2024 Presidential Debate,” Trump wrote. He went on to question why she did not step in during the live event if she suspected a stroke, asking why she did not intervene “as any good wife would do.”
Trump concluded his post by attributing the outcome of the debate to his own debate style rather than an independent medical issue, framing the former president’s performance as a direct consequence of the matchup.
“The only thing she failed to mention was how well I was doing prior to his near total collapse,” Trump stated. “In other words, as many have asked, did my strong performance in that debate cause [Biden] to plain and simple “choke,” leading to his ignominious defeat, or were other reasons the cause? Nobody else knows the answer to that, BUT I DO!!!”
