The Tampa Bay area faces a week of intense afternoon heat and regular chances of rain, according to the latest multi-day forecast from the National Weather Service.
High temperatures are expected to stay in the lower to mid-90s, while high humidity levels drive feel-like heat index values well above 100 degrees during the early part of the week.
Sunday brings scattered showers and thunderstorms, primarily concentrated between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The day will remain mostly sunny with a high near 94 degrees and peak heat index values reaching 106. Winds will shift from calm to west-northwest around 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Rain chances stand at 30 percent. Sunday night drops to a low around 78 under mostly cloudy skies, with isolated storms possible after 5 a.m. and a 10 percent chance of rain.
Unsettled conditions increase heading into Monday. The forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of scattered showers and storms alongside partly sunny conditions and a high near 93 degrees. Heat index values could climb to 104 degrees, driven by west winds of 7 to 10 mph. New rainfall amounts could reach between a half and three-quarters of an inch. Rain chances continue Monday night at 30 percent, with scattered storms main lingering between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. and overnight lows near 77 degrees.
Tuesday follows a similar pattern with a 40 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. Skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 94 degrees and light winds shifting west at 5 to 9 mph. Overnight conditions will turn partly cloudy with a low of 78 and a light west-southwest wind.
Midweek weather brings stronger wind gusts to the region. Wednesday carries a high near 93 degrees with a 30 percent chance of afternoon storms, mostly developing after 2 p.m. West winds will pick up to 8 to 13 mph, with gusts reaching up to 22 mph. Nighttime storm chances rise to 40 percent under partly cloudy skies with lows around 78.
Precipitation chances peak during the latter half of the week. Thursday and Friday both carry a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Daytime highs will hover around 91 degrees both days under partly sunny skies. Thursday will see continued breezy conditions, with west winds of 9 to 14 mph and gusts up to 22 mph. Nighttime lows through Friday night will stay in the mid-70s, with evening rain chances remaining between 40 and 50 percent.
The active weather pattern carries into next weekend. Saturday’s forecast shows a 60 percent chance of showers and storms, partly sunny skies, and a high temperature near 91 degrees.
