CLEARWATER, Fla. – A high-speed collision on South Highland Avenue claimed the life of a young motorcyclist yesterday afternoon, according to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred around 3:20 PM on February 16 near the intersection of Citrus Street.

Investigators say a 20-year-old man from Clearwater was heading north on a Suzuki motorcycle when the crash happened. Witnesses reported the biker was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving past several other vehicles just before the impact.

As the motorcyclist attempted to overtake traffic, he struck a Nissan Rogue driven by a 61-year-old Clearwater woman.

The force of the collision left the motorcyclist with critical injuries. Emergency crews rushed him to a local hospital, but authorities confirmed he later passed away.

The two occupants of the Nissan—the driver and her 64-year-old male passenger—were also taken to the hospital. Both were treated for minor injuries and are expected to recover.

Police closed down portions of South Highland Avenue for several hours to process the scene and clear the wreckage.
