HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) held a special meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, to discuss extending the state of local emergency in Hillsborough County and other issues related to managing the ongoing response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
By a vote of 7 to 0. The Emergency order, including masks indoors, stays in place.
District 6 County Commissioner Pat Kemp said, “It appears that the mask-wearing, is continued decisively in Pinellas County as well as Pasco County to continue, this is what seems to be bringing our the social distancing the mask-wearing, the carefulness of people seems to be what is finally bringing these very very high rates down.”
“My daughter lives in Canada, so I watched Canada, which has 40 million people, twice as many as Florida. Canada today had 412 new cases and one death. Florida had 2,500 new cases and 172 deaths. I just think it’s good to get perspective again that’s twice our population as well in Florida,” added Kemp.
The state of local emergency can be in effect for only seven days, unless extended.
