Hillsborough County Crews Shut Off Water in Area Along Gibsonton Drive

RIVERVIEW, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Water Resources Department has shut off potable water to an area along Gibsonton Drive after a contractor damaged buried piping late Wednesday afternoon.

Water service to the community has been temporarily interrupted this evening after the contractor damaged a 20-inch water line in the area of Gibsonton and Kenda drives. The water line that is damaged is just east of Interstate 75.

The Water Resources Department has temporarily shut water off in the area to repair the potable water line. This has impacted 25 residential homes in the area, one apartment complex, and three businesses.

Crews are on the scene to complete the repairs. A precautionary boil water notice will be issued once repairs are complete.

  1. For anyone checking this and wondering when the water will be back on: I just called the number listed in the article. They said while they don’t have specific updates for this incident, in a best-case scenario, this type of fix takes 6-8 hours; with some complications, it might take 8-10 hours; and worst case, it shouldn’t take more than 15 hours. That’s total, and the water’s been off since shortly after 5 pm. So, translation: best case, it’ll be back between about 11 pm and 1 am. With some complications, it could be between 1 and 3. And worst case, the outage shouldn’t last later than about 8 am. Hope that helps someone out there!
