HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after leading Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase in Cheval.
The incident began around 8:17 p.m. when deputies from the Street Crimes Unit attempted a traffic stop near Van Dyke Road and Lake Carlton Drive. The driver, later identified as Jefferey Jonuel Acevedo, fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.

The Sheriff’s Office Aviation Section tracked Acevedo to an apartment complex on Lake Carlton Drive, where he abandoned his vehicle and attempted to hide. While fleeing, he struck a parked car and continued to evade deputies.
Acevedo was eventually apprehended and arrested. He faces a slew of charges, including:
- Driving with a Canceled, Suspended, or Revoked License
- Reckless Driving
- Fleeing to Elude at High Speed
- Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage
- Out-of-County Warrant

“Reckless behavior like this endangers lives, and we will continue to ensure those who break the law are held accountable,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This case highlights the teamwork between our units as we work to serve and protect Hillsborough County.”
