Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group Meeting- Update Rescind Safer At Home

April 30 2020

By: Staff Report

At today’s meeting, Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group has voted to rescind the County order Monday, May 4th at midnight. Hillsborough County will follow-the Phase 1 order that Governor Desantis presented at a press conference yesterday. The vote from the group was 7 to 1, with only Mayor Jane Cator voting no.

“I see no point in this,” Tampa mayor Jane Castor countered, pointing out that the governor’s order was nearly identical to the local order, making it redundant.

“Either we’re going to get behind the governor’s leadership or we’re not. That’s what this vote is about today,” offered Plant City mayor Rick Lott  “I think we just need a clear message here.”

During the conference yesterday, the Governor discussed the opening of Florida in phases, and the details of Phase1 are below.

Phase 1 includes:

-Distance learning is going to remain in place

-Not allowing visitors to long-term care facilities.

-Elective surgeries are able to resume and that’s going to take place statewide

-Churches opened, social distancing in place

-Restaurants allow outdoor seating with social distance

-Restaurants indoors, they can do 25 percent capacity with the CDC recommended spacing.

-Retail at 25% indoor capacity, have to follow the CDC recommendations for social.

-Expanded testing to include 30k-40k test per-day
