HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise has extended the state of local emergency in response to the ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Milton.

The initial emergency order was put in place on October 6th, 2024, as Hurricane Milton approached Florida. This latest extension will remain in effect until January 12th, 2025.

The state of local emergency grants the County Administrator and emergency management officials the authority to take swift action to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community. It also facilitates access to federal funding and resources for recovery efforts.

Hurricane Milton made landfall in Sarasota County on October 9th, 2024, causing significant damage across the region. Hillsborough County experienced widespread power outages, flooding, and property damage.
