HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County, Florida, will remain under a state of local emergency until October 28th due to the ongoing impact of Hurricane Helene. The extension, signed by County Administrator Bonnie Wise, allows for continued emergency measures and facilitates access to federal reimbursement funds.

The initial emergency order was declared on September 23rd in anticipation of Hurricane Helene. The state of emergency grants the County Administrator and emergency managers the authority to swiftly implement actions to protect the community’s health and safety.

This extension comes as Hillsborough County is also under a separate state of emergency for Hurricane Milton. Governor Ron DeSantis has also declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Florida in response to these storms.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared by registering for HCFL Alert, the county’s public notification system. Updates and essential information can be found on the county’s website or by calling the storm information helpline.
