HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County extended its state of local emergency Monday as it continues to grapple with the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
County Administrator Bonnie Wise signed an executive order extending the emergency declaration, which was originally issued on September 23rd in anticipation of Hurricane Helene. The extension will remain in effect through December 9th.
The state of local emergency grants the County Administrator and emergency managers the authority to expedite actions necessary for the safety and well-being of the community. It also facilitates access to federal funding for recovery efforts.

Ongoing Recovery Efforts
This extension underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Hillsborough County as it recovers from the impacts of two major hurricanes. The declaration allows the county to continue mobilizing resources and providing essential services to residents in need.
Hurricane Milton, which struck the Tampa Bay region in October, caused significant damage and disruption. The county is actively working to repair infrastructure, provide assistance to affected residents, and ensure the continued delivery of essential services.
The state of emergency also allows the county to remain eligible for federal reimbursement of expenses related to storm response and recovery.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has also declared a state of emergency for the entire state in response to the hurricanes. This declaration provides additional support and resources for affected communities throughout Florida.
