PLANT CITY, Fla. — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews extinguished a heavy residential structure fire Wednesday morning at 2207 Allen Drive in Plant City.
HCFR’s Emergency Dispatch Communications Center began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire at approximately 10:10 a.m. Additional calls came in from motorists traveling along nearby Interstate 4, who reported seeing flames and a large column of smoke rising from the area.
The first unit to arrive on scene encountered a single-story home with more than 50% of the structure fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters initially deployed handlines to launch an interior attack on the blaze, but discovered the fire had already consumed more than half of the roof.
Due to deteriorating conditions inside, command staff ordered crews to withdraw from the residence and transition to defensive operations. Firefighters then deployed an aerial master stream to knock down the main body of the fire from a safe distance outside.
Once conditions improved and the environment was stabilized, firefighters re-entered the home to finish bringing the blaze under control, fully suppressing the fire in less than an hour.
A thorough search of the residence confirmed that no occupants were inside at the time of the incident. Officials reported no injuries to either civilians or responding firefighters.
HCFR crews remained at the location through the late morning to conduct overhaul and mop-up operations. The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Fire Investigations Unit was dispatched to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
