HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County’s Pet Resource Center is hosting the “Splish Splash Adoption Bash” on Saturday, Aug. 15, offering free pet adoptions to help ease severe overcrowding at its facility.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the shelter, located at 440 N. Falkenburg Rd. in Tampa. To keep visitors and animals cool in the summer heat, the bash will feature splash pads, ice treats, food trucks, pet enrichment activities, and adoptable dog playgroups. People who adopt a pet will receive swag bags while supplies last.
The event comes at a critical time for the county’s only open-admissions shelter, which accepts all dogs and cats regardless of their age, breed, size, or medical condition.
The facility is currently operating well above its intended capacity, housing nearly 300 dogs and more than 150 cats. Shelter officials are actively seeking both permanent adopters and temporary foster parents to help reduce the animal population.
All adoption fees will be waived for the event. Residents who cannot attend in person can view currently available pets online at HCFL.gov/Adopt.
