HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County is preparing to roll out up to $60 million in financial aid to repair and rebuild multifamily housing damaged by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. To kick off the initiative, local officials are hosting two community engagement meetings this Thursday, May 21, inviting property owners, developers, and housing advocates to help shape how the money is spent.

The upcoming sessions are a core part of the county’s “Rebuilding for Tomorrow” program, which provides recovery funding for both single-family and multifamily properties affected by the 2024 storm season. Thursday’s meetings are designed specifically for stakeholders in the multifamily sector, including affordable housing developers, public housing agencies, and community organizations.
Attendees will get a first look at the program’s guidelines, eligibility criteria, and details regarding a formal Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) scheduled for release in June. County officials are using the meetings to gather direct feedback from the community to ensure the funds target the area’s most pressing housing shortages.
Both meetings will take place at the Robert W. Saunders Public Library, located at 1505 Nebraska Ave. in Tampa.
The morning session will begin at 10 a.m. and focus strictly on small-scale projects, which the county defines as properties with five to 49 units. The afternoon session will start at 2 p.m. and shift the focus to large-scale developments featuring 50 or more units.
The $60 million program represents Hillsborough County’s latest effort to stabilize and expand affordable housing options after the back-to-back hurricanes disrupted the local rental market last year.
