HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla.- Two suspects are behind bars thanks to the quick thinking of their victims and the aerial assistance of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit.
On Monday night, two individuals were robbed at gunpoint while sitting in their car outside an apartment building on Douglas Oaks Circle. The thieves made off with the victims’ phones, but one victim was able to track their stolen device, providing real-time location data to law enforcement.
This digital trail, along with support from the Tampa Police Department, led deputies to the suspects’ vehicle. With the help of the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, which provided an eye-in-the-sky perspective, 21-year-old Jamel Hernandez and 23-year-old Kareem Hernandez were quickly apprehended.

Both men were arrested and now face charges of Armed Robbery with a Firearm and Armed Burglary of a Conveyance. It seems their attempt to make a quick getaway hit a snag thanks to some clever tracking and a bird’s-eye view from above.
