HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers who use McIntosh Road late tonight need to plan for a serious wrench in their travel plans. Starting at 9 p.m. on Monday, June 8, crews are shutting down all northbound lanes of McIntosh Road directly under Interstate 4.
The closure will squeeze traffic through the overnight hours, with lanes scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9. Local transportation officials confirmed that the shutdown is entirely dependent on the weather, so a sudden storm could change the timeline.
Construction workers are using the eight-hour window to pave a fresh section of the road. The work is a critical piece of the ongoing I-4 interchange improvement project at Exit 14 in Hillsborough County.
If you are headed that way, you won’t be able to pass straight under the highway. Instead, you will be routed onto a detour that utilizes US 92 (Hillsborough Avenue), Kingsway Road, and Muck Pond Road. Road crews have already placed electronic message boards and temporary signs along the route to help drivers navigate the detour.
Transportation officials are reminding everyone out on the roads tonight to slow down, stay alert, and drive safely through the active work zone.
