HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers traveling through Hillsborough County next week will encounter a series of scheduled lane closures on major highways and local roads starting Sunday, August 9, according to a release from the Florida Department of Transportation District 7.
Most of the construction and maintenance work is scheduled during overnight hours to minimize traffic delays, though a few locations will experience daytime lane reductions.
Interstate travelers should prepare for night work on both I-75 and I-275. On I-75, lane closures will run from the I-4 interchange to Fowler Avenue each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning August 9 and extending through Friday, August 28.
For those commuting across Tampa Bay on I-275, the Howard Frankland Bridge will see nightly lane closures between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Saturday, August 15.
Additional northbound closures on I-275 between the bridge and Exit 39 (SR 60 West/SR 689) are scheduled from Monday, August 10, to Friday, August 14, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
State Route 60 will experience disruptions at multiple locations. Eastbound lane closures on SR 60 (Memorial Highway) from Exit 1A to the northbound I-275 entrance ramp will take place nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Further east, SR 60 will have overnight closures at North 26th Street (Adamo Drive) from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., and from Buckingham Place to Lithia Pinecrest Road between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., both running Sunday through Thursday.
Several U.S. routes across the county are included in the weekly schedule:
- US 41 (22nd Street Causeway): Nightly lane closures over the McKay Bay bridge from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
- US 92 (Hillsborough Avenue): Eastbound lane closures on the Gandy Bridge run Sunday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. On the mainland, closures occur at North 15th Street overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Sunday to Thursday), and between 39th Street North and 42nd Street North from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. (Monday to Friday).
- US 301: Nightly closures affect the stretch from the Manatee County line to SR 674 from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Saturday. Night work is also set at Big Bend Road from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Daytime lane closures will occur at Ayersworth Glen Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Local commuters on SR 574 (West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) face overnight closures at Buccaneer Place from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. At North 12th Street, SR 574 will have both daytime closures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Monday to Friday) and evening closures from 7 p.m. to midnight (Sunday to Thursday).
Other local routes affected include Southbound County Line Road from Swindell Road to South Frontage Road, which will see nightly closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. from August 9 through August 20. Flagging operations and lane closures are also scheduled at the intersection of Robert Tolle Road and Bloomingdale Avenue from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
FDOT advises motorists to exercise caution, adhere to posted speed limits, and plan for extra travel time when driving through these active work zones.
