HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Overnight Construction Rush: Major Lane Closures Coming to Hillsborough Highways Next Week
Drivers traveling through Hillsborough County next week will need to account for widespread roadwork as the Florida Department of Transportation District 7 begins a fresh round of maintenance and construction projects starting Sunday, August 2.
The majority of work is scheduled during overnight hours to minimize traffic delays on major interstates, state routes, and bay-area bridges.
Interstate Work and Bridge Closures
Interstate commuters will see several active construction zones. On Interstate 75, nightly lane closures between Interstate 4 and Fowler Avenue are scheduled from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., running Sunday, August 2 through Friday, August 28.
Interstate 275 will also have multiple closures throughout the week. Traffic on the Howard Frankland Bridge will be impacted nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting August 2 and ending Saturday, August 8. Northbound I-275 lanes from east of the bridge to Exit 39 (SR 60 West/SR 689) will close nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday, August 3 through Friday, August 7. Closer to central Tampa, I-275 between Himes Avenue and Howard Avenue will experience overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
U.S. Routes and Cross-Bay Commutes
Cross-bay and local commuters on U.S. routes should also expect disruptions. Eastbound lanes on the Gandy Bridge (US 92) will close nightly from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Friday, August 7.
Along US 92 (Hillsborough Avenue), lane closures will run between 39th Street North and 42nd Street North from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday, while work at North 15th Street will close lanes from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday. Additionally, the US 41 (22nd Street Causeway) bridge over McKay Bay will undergo nightly closures from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
US 301 Construction Zones
Several major projects are set for US 301 across the county. Night closures from the Manatee County line to SR 674 (Sun City Center Boulevard) are set for 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. nightly, Sunday through Saturday, August 8.
Work under the Selmon Expressway will occur Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and lane closures at Big Bend Road will run Tuesday, August 4 through Thursday, August 6, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime work is scheduled for US 301 at Ayersworth Glen Boulevard, where lanes will close from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
State Roads 60 and 574
State Road 60 will see overnight lane closures at three distinct locations:
- Memorial Highway (Eastbound): South of Exit 1A to the northbound I-275 ramp (9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday).
- Adamo Drive: At North 26th Street (8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday).
- Brandon Area: Between Buckingham Place and Lithia Pinecrest Road (8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday).
On State Road 574 (West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), night closures at Buccaneer Place will run Sunday through Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. At North 12th Street, SR 574 will feature both daytime closures (8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday) and evening closures (7 p.m. to midnight, Sunday through Thursday).
County Line and McIntosh Road Updates
Rounding out the regional traffic updates, southbound County Line Road from Swindell Road to South Frontage Road will have overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., beginning Sunday, August 2 and continuing through Thursday, August 13. Meanwhile, McIntosh Road under I-4 will undergo night closures from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
