HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County is facing multiple lane closures next week. You might want to double-check your route before you leave the house.
From overnight work on the Howard Frankland to 24-hour closures on US 301, here is where you are likely to hit the brakes between January 25 and January 31.
The Big Highways (I-75, I-4, I-275)
The major interstates are getting hit with mostly overnight work, so late-night commuters need to be careful.
- Howard Frankland Bridge (I-275): Crews are closing lanes between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties every night from Sunday through Saturday. The closures run from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- I-75: It’s a mix of day and night work.
- The outside shoulder is closed 24/7 from the Tampa Bypass Canal to Fowler Ave.
- Expect nightly lane closures (10 p.m. – 5 a.m.) from MLK Jr. Blvd up to Fowler Ave, and southbound from Harney Road to the Bypass Canal.
- I-4 Westbound: Heading west? Lanes will be closed from 50th Street to MLK Jr. Blvd on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights starting at 11 p.m.

The US 301 Headache
US 301 is seeing the heaviest construction volume this week. If this is your main route, pack some patience.
- Rivercrest Drive to Whitt Road: This stretch has work going on almost all day. Expect lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the day, and again overnight starting at 8 p.m.
- Bloomingdale to MLK Jr. Blvd: Lanes here are closed 24 hours a day through late February.
- Night Work: Watch for closures near Ayersworth Glen Blvd, Dawns Light Drive, and the stretch from SR 60 down to Causeway Blvd mostly between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Local Streets and Commuter Routes
It isn’t just the highways. A few key city streets are seeing major work, too.
- Dale Mabry: Watch out for night closures (9 p.m. – 6 a.m.) at two spots: near Lutz Lake Fern and further south between Ballast Point and Gandy Blvd.
- Gandy Blvd: Eastbound lanes just past the bridge will be closed nightly all week from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Ybor City / Downtown:
- 7th Avenue will have 24-hour lane closures starting Wednesday, Jan. 28.
- 15th Street (northbound) is closed around the clock through early February.
Other Spots to Watch
- SR 60 (Memorial Hwy): Westbound night closures near the airport (George J. Bean Pkwy).
- Frontage Road: This is a long-term closure. It’s shut down completely from West Cypress to West Lemon St.
- Thonotosassa Road: Closures are happening under I-4 from Tuesday to Friday nights.
