HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Those hitting the roads in Hillsborough County this coming week might want to double-check their GPS before heading out the door. The Florida Department of Transportation has released a sweeping list of lane closures scheduled for February 15 through February 21, and it’s looking like a busy week for road crews and a frustrating one for night owls.
Interstate travelers will bear much of the brunt. Starting Tuesday, February 17, westbound I-4 will see nightly closures between MLK Jr. Boulevard and 50th Street. Meanwhile, I-75 is essentially becoming a long-term construction zone.
Between MLK and Fowler Avenue, expect nightly delays from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Monday—a pattern that is currently slated to last until mid-March. Northbound drivers on I-75 near the Tampa Bypass Canal should also stay alert, as the outside shoulder will be closed 24/7 through the end of the month.

Commuters crossing between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties won’t find much relief either. Both the Howard Frankland and Gandy bridges are on the list. The Howard Frankland will have nightly lane closures throughout the entire week, while the eastbound Gandy Bridge will see restrictions starting Sunday night. Once you get off the Gandy, the work continues toward Dale Mabry Highway, with nightly closures scheduled there all the way through late April.
Surface roads are seeing a significant amount of action as well. US 301 is being hit from multiple angles, with various stretches near Big Bend Road and Bloomingdale Avenue facing either nightly or around-the-clock restrictions. Over on Kennedy Boulevard, crews will be working near Henderson, Arrawana, and Armenia avenues in different phases throughout the week, mostly during the overnight hours to minimize the impact on daytime business traffic.

Even smaller connectors and frontage roads aren’t exempt. The frontage road between West Cypress Street and West Lemon Street remains under a continuous, 24-hour closure that isn’t expected to let up until early 2027. For those in the Plant City area, expect flagging operations under I-4 at Branch Forbes Road Sunday night and nightly closures at Thonotosassa Road starting Monday.
Drivers are encouraged to remain patient, keep their eyes on the road, and expect the unexpected in these work zones. Most of these projects are scheduled for the late-night and early-morning hours to keep the heaviest traffic moving, but with so many overlapping projects, a little extra travel time is a safe bet.
