HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County drivers are facing a grueling week on the road as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 kicks off a massive slate of construction projects. Starting Sunday, March 15, through Saturday, March 21, commuters should expect significant delays across major arteries, including I-75, I-275, and several key U.S. highways.

The interstate system will see heavy nighttime activity. On I-75, crews will close lanes between MLK Jr. Boulevard and Fowler Avenue from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Meanwhile, travelers crossing the Howard Frankland Bridge on I-275 should prepare for lane restrictions from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Sunday. Additional I-275 closures will impact northbound traffic near the SR 60/SR 589 interchange during similar overnight hours.

U.S. 301 is set to be one of the most heavily affected corridors this week. A 24-hour-a-day closure is already in effect from Bloomingdale Avenue to MLK Jr. Boulevard and is scheduled to remain in place until April 3. Other sections of U.S. 301, including areas near Big Bend Road and the Manatee County line, will see various night and day closures throughout the week.

Travelers heading toward the airport or the coast will also run into orange cones. State Road 60 (Memorial Highway) has scheduled westbound lane closures from George J. Bean Parkway to the Veterans Expressway most nights this week.

On the Gandy Bridge, eastbound lanes will be restricted during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the section of Gandy Boulevard from the bridge to Dale Mabry Highway will see night work from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Local commuters should also note several long-term disruptions. Frontage Road from Cypress Street to Lemon Street remains under a continuous 24-hour closure that is expected to last until January 2027. Nearby, the stretch from Cypress Street to Cypress Center Drive will also feature 24-hour lane closures through late 2026.

Other notable impacts include daytime work on U.S. 41 from the Manatee County line to John Sherman Way and nighttime closures on SR 574 (MLK Jr. Blvd) from U.S. 301 to Lakewood Drive. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes as these FDOT projects move forward.
