TAMPA, Fla. – Hillsborough County drivers returning to their regular routines after the holidays should prepare for a slew of new construction projects this week. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has released its lane closure summary for January 4 through January 10, 2026, and it includes overnight shutdowns on nearly every major artery in the region.

From the Howard Frankland Bridge to the rural stretches of SR 39, here is what you need to know before you hit the road.

Interstate Slowdowns

Commuters traveling between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties should plan for extra time on the Howard Frankland Bridge (I-275). Crews will be closing lanes nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting Sunday, January 4, and running through Saturday morning.

Travelers on I-75 will see significant activity as well. Nightly lane closures are scheduled from SR 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) up to Fowler Avenue between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Additionally, southbound drivers near Harney Road and the Tampa Bay Bypass Canal will face lane reductions all week long during overnight hours.

If I-4 is part of your nightly commute, keep an eye out for crews at Thonotosassa Road (Jan. 5–8) and Park Road (Jan. 8–9). Traffic patterns will shift starting at 9:30 p.m. in most of these zones.

24-Hour Closures and Local Impacts

While the interstates are seeing mostly overnight work, some local roads are facing round-the-clock restrictions.

The most disruptive project appears to be on US 301 from Bloomingdale Avenue to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. A continuous lane closure begins at 8 p.m. this Sunday and won’t lift until the end of the month. Similarly, northbound SR 39 from Kilgore Road to Sparkman Road will have lane closures in place 24 hours a day starting Sunday, continuing through mid-February.

Airport and Westshore Traffic

Drivers heading to Tampa International Airport or moving through the Westshore district via SR 60 (Memorial Highway) should stay alert. Westbound lanes from George J. Bean Parkway to the Veterans Expressway will close nightly from Sunday through Thursday. The eastbound entrance ramp to northbound I-275 will also see closures early in the week, specifically Sunday and Monday nights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Other Notable Spots

  • Dale Mabry Highway: Nightly closures at Lutz Lake Fern Rd (Jan. 5–9).
  • Habana Avenue: A full daytime road closure is scheduled south of Kennedy Blvd on Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 15th Street: Continuous northbound lane closures remain in effect between Palm Avenue and 12th Avenue.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution in work zones and factor in extra travel time for evening commutes.
