HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers across Hillsborough County should prepare for a significant series of lane closures starting Sunday, March 8, and continuing through Saturday, March 14. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 has released a schedule of maintenance and construction work that will impact major interstates, bridges, and local highways, primarily during overnight hours.
Interstate travelers will face several hurdles. Westbound I-4 will see nightly lane closures from 50th Street to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Sunday through Thursday. On I-75, crews will be working between MLK Blvd. and Fowler Avenue, with closures set for Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Commuters crossing the Howard Frankland Bridge (I-275) should note that the bridge will undergo nightly closures in both directions for the entire week, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The Gandy Bridge (US 92) will also see eastbound lane closures on Sunday and Monday nights. Additionally, a long-term project on Gandy Boulevard from the bridge to Dale Mabry Highway will trigger nightly closures beginning Monday and lasting through April 26.
Several stretches of US 301 will be under construction. Most notably, the segment from Bloomingdale Avenue to MLK Blvd. will remain under 24-hour-per-day lane closures through Friday, March 20. Other US 301 work zones include the Manatee County line to SR 674, Big Bend Road, and Whitt Road, with most work occurring overnight or during midday hours.
Major arteries like SR 60 (Memorial Highway and Adamo Drive) are also on the list. Westbound Memorial Highway will see closures near the Veterans Expressway Sunday through Thursday nights. For those heading toward the airport, the eastbound SR 60 entrance ramp to northbound I-275 will close on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Local frontage roads near West Cypress Street will experience the longest impacts. One section will remain closed 24 hours a day until late 2026, while another stretch is scheduled for a continuous closure through January 2027.
FDOT urges motorists to remain alert, obey posted speed limits, and expect delays throughout the week as these projects proceed.
