Hillsborough County Traffic Alert: Wave Of Roadwork Hits April 19-25

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County drivers are facing a significant surge in lane closures and construction delays starting Sunday, April 19.

Transportation officials have scheduled extensive work across nearly every major artery in the region, including I-4, I-75, and I-275, with many projects stretching through the end of the month.

The Howard Frankland Bridge will see heavy activity, with northbound lane closures between the SR 60 interchange and Exit 39 running nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday. Additional work on the bridge connecting Hillsborough and Pinellas counties will continue until Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, I-4 travelers should prepare for eastbound closures from the Tampa Bypass Canal to I-75, and I-75 itself will see nightly restrictions between MLK Jr. Boulevard and Fowler Avenue through May 1.

Surface roads are not exempt from the disruption. US 301 is particularly affected, with several different work zones in play.

Most notably, the stretch from Bloomingdale Avenue to MLK Jr. Boulevard will remain under 24-hour lane closures through Friday, April 24. Further south, the Gandy Bridge will have eastbound lane closures during the day, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., throughout the work week.

State Road 60 will also experience rolling closures at several points, including Westbound Memorial Highway near the airport and Adamo Drive at 26th Street. Long-term projects continue to impact local traffic as well: Frontage Road between Cypress and Lemon Streets is set for a continuous 24-hour closure that is expected to remain in place until January 2027.

Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time and to remain alert for crews working near the roadway. Most nightly projects are scheduled to begin between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., wrapping up by the early morning commute.
