Drivers across Hillsborough County should prepare for a busy week of construction delays as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 launches an extensive series of road and lane closures from June 21 through June 27, 2026. While the vast majority of the work is scheduled for overnight hours to minimize daytime gridlock, several areas will face daytime restrictions and long-term, 24-hour continuous closures.
Interstate commuters will see significant disruptions, particularly along I-275. Nightly closures on the Howard Frankland Bridge between Hillsborough and Pinellas counties run from Sunday, June 20 through Saturday, June 27, lasting from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nearby, northbound I-275 from south of Exit 39 to just north of the State Road 60 interchange will experience nightly closures between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. starting Sunday, June 21 through Friday, June 26.
Southbound drivers on I-275 before Exit 39 will hit nightly closures from Sunday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Further east, I-275 will also see nightly lane closures from Willow Avenue to Green Street between 9 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. from Sunday through Thursday.
Other major area highways are also heavily impacted. Overnight travelers on I-75 will encounter lane closures from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Fowler Avenue every night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Sunday, June 21 and stretching well past the week into Friday, July 17. Meanwhile, I-4 drivers face a quick eastbound lane closure at Mango Road from 9:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25 until 5:30 a.m. Friday, June 26.
Major US routes and bridge crossings between counties are also on the schedule. Eastbound lanes on the US 92 Gandy Bridge will shut down nightly from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. starting Sunday, June 21 through Saturday, June 27. Connecting work along Gandy Boulevard from the bridge to Dale Mabry Highway mirrors those exact hours but wraps up on Friday, June 26. For those taking US 41, daytime closures over the Hillsborough River on Nebraska Avenue will take place Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. On the 22nd Street Causeway bridge over McKay Bay, US 41 will see nightly closures Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
US 301 is experiencing work at multiple points. Drivers can expect nightly closures from the Manatee County line to Sun City Center Boulevard from Sunday through Saturday between 7 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., as well as nightly closures between Causeway Boulevard and I-75 from Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures will hit US 301 at Ayersworth Glen Boulevard Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., while a single overnight closure will take place at Big Bend Road from 7 p.m. Monday, June 22 to 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 23. Most notably, Broadway Avenue under US 301 will be completely closed 24 hours a day through Friday, July 17, 2026.
State Road 60 motorists will need to navigate several night projects running Sunday through Thursday. The eastbound entrance ramp to northbound I-275 will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Lane closures are also scheduled at North 26th Street from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., and from Buckingham Place to Lithia Pinecrest Road between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
State Roads 553 and 574 feature a mix of day and night work. Park Road (SR 553) from Baker Street to north of I-4 will have night closures Sunday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., alongside day closures Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. On West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (SR 574), closures at North 12th Street run during the day Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and at night Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to midnight. Nearby at Buccaneer Place, nightly closures run Sunday through Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Local roads round out the heavy maintenance schedule. Gray Street at Reo Street will have daytime closures and flagging operations Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Branch Forbes Road under I-4 and Mango Road over I-4 will both undergo nightly closures Sunday through Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Southbound County Line Road from Swindell Road to South Frontage Road will close nightly Sunday through Thursday, July 2 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Finally, drivers near the airport should note long-term, 24-hour continuous closures on Frontage Road: the segment from Cypress Street to Cypress Center Drive is closed through late 2026, and the section from Cypress Street to Lemon Street is closed continuously until January 2027.
