HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A high-speed collision in a Hillsborough County work zone sent two workers to the hospital with serious injuries on Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 AM on SR-574, just west of Bismark Palm Drive, involving a large SUV and a stationary construction vehicle.
Florida Highway Patrol reports indicate that a 37-year-old Tampa man was traveling westbound in a GMC Yukon when he entered a clearly marked, active work zone.
Despite a Ford F-550 construction truck being parked in the area with its caution lights activated, the driver of the Yukon attempted to overtake other vehicles and struck the truck.

The impact caused severe damage and resulted in serious injuries to two men inside the Ford F-550. The victims, ages 20 and 36, both residents of Bradenton, were stabilized at the scene before being transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the GMC Yukon sustained only minor injuries in the crash. Following an initial investigation by state troopers at the scene, the driver was cited for careless driving. Authorities have not released further details regarding the current condition of the injured workers.
