TAMPA, Fla. – Nature enthusiasts across Hillsborough County are encouraged to lace up their boots and hit the trails as the 10th annual Hiking Spree officially begins this Saturday, November 1. The popular event, designed to get residents exercising and exploring the outdoors, will kick off with a special celebration at Lettuce Lake Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free-to-attend kickoff event at Lettuce Lake Park, located at 6920 E. Fletcher Ave., Tampa, FL 33637, promises a day of fun and valuable information for participants. Attendees can enjoy guided hikes, insightful nature talks and workshops, nature-based crafts, and a variety of food trucks.

Exclusive Hiking Spree merchandise and materials, as well as information from local outdoor clubs and environmental groups, will also be available. (Note: There is a cash entrance fee of $2 per vehicle at the park.)

Explore, Exercise, and Earn Rewards

The Hillsborough County Hiking Spree draws thousands of participants each year, offering a structured way to experience the numerous parks and preserves across the county. This year’s official trail list features 23 diverse parks and preserves.

To earn a limited-edition reward—a patch, walking stick medallion, or pet bandana—participants must complete at least eight of the designated hikes. One of the hikes can be at a location of the participant’s choice, providing added flexibility.

Perfect Timing and Accessibility

The Hiking Spree is strategically timed to run through March 31, 2026, taking advantage of the cooler, drier weather and coinciding with prime bird-watching season. The trails offer something for everyone, regardless of age or ability, with hikes rated as easy, moderate, or strenuous. Trail lengths vary from under a mile to several miles, and many are designed to be perfect for wheelchair users or those with accessibility needs.

The county encourages residents to bring their leashed dogs, as they are permitted on most trails.

Residents can learn more about the event, view the complete list of trails, and register for free at HCFL.gov/HikingSpree.
