TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa residents should hold off on dragging their bins to the curb next Monday. The City of Tampa has announced temporary changes to garbage and recycling collection schedules in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
City offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026, and collection trucks will not run their usual residential routes that day.
Here is what residents and business owners need to know to avoid a missed pickup:
Residential Service Changes
If your garbage, recycling, or yard waste is usually collected on Mondays, there will be no service on the holiday. You should not put your cans out on Monday; instead, collection will take place on your next regularly scheduled service day.

For all other residents, service remains unchanged. Regular schedules resume fully on Tuesday, January 20.
Commercial Service Changes
Business collections will operate on a slightly different timeline. Commercial service runs one day behind schedule throughout the holiday week, continuing through Saturday, January 24. Normal commercial schedules are set to return on Monday, January 26.
Facility Closures
Residents looking to haul their own debris should plan accordingly. The McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House, located at 114 S. 34th St., will be closed all day Monday. The facility reopens with standard hours on Tuesday.
Stay Updated: To double-check your specific pickup days, the city recommends downloading the Tampa Trash and Recycling app from the Apple or Google Play stores.
