Home Invasion Ends In Fatal Shooting In Tarpon Springs

A homeowner defending their residence shot and killed an intruder in an early morning incident.

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – A late-night shooting in Tarpon Springs has left one man dead during a home invasion. Tarpon Springs Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress at a residence on 522 Midway Lane just after midnight on Saturday.

Upon arrival at approximately 12:41 a.m., officers discovered an adult male with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Officers immediately began life-saving measures before the man was transported to Advent Health North Pinellas. He was later transferred to Bayonet Point Medical Center, where he died.

The deceased has been identified as George Tirikos of Tarpon Springs.

According to the Tarpon Springs Police Department, the investigation has so far revealed that Tirikos ‘unlawfully’ entered the residence. An altercation ensued between the intruder and the occupants of the home. During the confrontation, the residents retrieved a firearm and fired several shots, striking Tirikos.

All parties involved have been identified and are cooperating with law enforcement officials. The case is currently under investigation by the Tarpon Springs Detective Division, in conjunction with the Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office.

Authorities are exploring the incident as a “Stand Your Ground” case.
