CITRUS COUNTY, FL. – On Thursday, shortly after 1:00 a.m., deputies from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported vehicle accident off North Alabaster Dr. and East Dearborn Dr. in Hernando.
Upon arrival, deputies located a white pickup truck in the woods with an unconscious, black male inside who appeared to have heavy trauma and injuries from the crash. As deputies attempted to render first aid to the male, they noticed that his trauma was not consistent with a vehicle accident. Instead, they determined his injuries to be from a possible gunshot wound.
Additional first responders from Citrus County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and subsequently pronounced the individual deceased.
The Medical Examiner’s Office responded out to the scene and will determine the official cause of death.
“Detectives from our Major Crimes Unit are currently investigating this suspicious death as a possible homicide. From the preliminary information and evidence gathered at the scene, we believe this to be an isolated incident,” said CCSO in a statement.
The investigation into this case remains active and no additional details are available at this time.
