CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A late-night drive turned deadly in Citrus County on Thursday, leaving a local man dead and two passengers hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 11:30 p.m. on West Riverwood Drive. Troopers say a 30-year-old Homosassa man was driving a Kia Forte westbound near West Notch Path when he lost control of the sedan.

The vehicle careened off the roadway and collided with a tree. The force of the impact ejected the driver, who died at the scene.

Two passengers in the car—a 31-year-old man from Ocala and a 34-year-old man from Troy, Pennsylvania—survived the wreck. Emergency responders rushed both men to a nearby hospital with what troopers described as serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the road. FHP has not released the names of the individuals involved.
