A routine traffic stop in Eatontown has ended with the arrest of a foreign fugitive wanted for homicide. Fredy Alexander Lopez Lara was taken into custody by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Newark officers on April 20 after they pulled over a vehicle in which he was a passenger.
What began as a targeted enforcement action based on Lopez Lara’s illegal presence in the country quickly escalated when officers ran his information through international databases.
The system checks revealed that Lopez Lara is currently the subject of an active arrest warrant for murder in his home country of Honduras.
Federal authorities confirmed that Lopez Lara had entered the United States at an undisclosed time and location without being inspected or paroled by immigration officials. He had been living in the country undetected until the Newark ERO team intercepted him during the April enforcement surge.

“ICE is actively working with our law enforcement partners worldwide to make sure foreign fugitives wanted for violent crimes are held accountable,” stated Arthur J. Wilson Jr., the acting Field Office Director for ERO Newark. “We will see to it that no criminal evades prosecution overseas by unlawfully seeking refuge in the United States.”
Lopez Lara is currently being held in ICE custody. He will remain detained as the government moves forward with formal removal proceedings to send him back to Honduras to face the pending murder charges.
