House Fire Claims Teenager’s Life In Coquina Key: St. Petersburg Fire Rescue

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg fire investigators are working to determine what sparked a deadly blaze that ripped through a Coquina Key home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The emergency call came in at approximately 3:30 a.m., sending St. Petersburg Fire Rescue teams to a single-story house that was already heavily engulfed in flames. First responders arrived to find fire venting from the home and reports that people were still trapped inside the burning building.

Crews entered the home to pull the residents from the heat and smoke. Three individuals were rescued and quickly transported by paramedics to a local hospital for medical treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.

Officials confirmed that one person did not survive the incident. An 18-year-old woman succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the fire. Authorities have not yet released her identity.

By sunrise, the flames were extinguished, leaving the home charred as investigators from the fire marshal’s office began sifting through the debris.

As of now, the department has not indicated where the fire started or if smoke detectors were functioning at the time of the 911 call. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
