The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Secure America Act on Tuesday, securing multi-year funding for federal immigration and border enforcement agencies. Following the vote, the Republican Party of Florida issued a statement praising the legislative victory and criticizing the opposing lawmakers.
The legislation provides financial resources directly to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to the bill text, the funding is designed to ensure federal agencies have the necessary tools to enforce current immigration laws, manage border security, and combat illegal cross-border activity.
The bill advanced through the House primarily along party lines, with Republicans voting in favor of the enforcement package and Democrats voting against it.
Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power issued a formal statement following the vote to thank Florida’s Republican congressional delegation for their support of the measure.
“The Secure America Act gives law enforcement the tools they need to protect our country and enforce our laws,” Power said. “I want to thank Florida’s Republican members of Congress for standing with President Trump, standing with law enforcement, and standing with the American people by voting to secure our border and remove dangerous criminal illegal immigrants from our communities.”
The partisan divide over the bill highlighted ongoing disagreements in Congress regarding federal law enforcement budgets and border strategy. While supporters argued the bill guarantees essential resources for frontline agents, opponents resisted the funding structure and the specific agency allocations.
Power expressed disappointment with the legislative opposition to the multi-year funding package.
“At a time when federal agents are arresting violent criminals, gang members, and drug traffickers, it’s disappointing that Democrats chose to vote against the resources needed to carry out that mission,” Power said. “Florida families deserve safe neighborhoods, secure borders, and elected officials who support law enforcement.”
With approval from both chambers of Congress, the Secure America Act now heads to the White House for the president’s signature.
