A reporter asked, “Mr. President, for vaccinated Americans who are wondering why they should continue to restrict their activities, given your health officials say most Americans will get COVID at some point.”

How Low Can He Go? Biden’s Approval Rating Drops Again

If it seems like we’ve been reading this line for months, it’s because we have. President Joe Biden’s approval rating remains in the cellar.

On Friday, the Associated Press and the University of Chicago research unit NORC jointly released a poll that showed Biden’s approval rating is 39 percent.

While other polls have measured Biden at a similar level – for example, an NPR poll had Biden at 39 percent in February – this is the lowest level he’s fallen to in the AP’s survey.

Biden’s approval rating fell six points in just a month in the AP poll.

Moreover, many Americans say the country is going in the wrong direction.

A whopping 78 percent agreed with that statement in the AP survey. That was up eight points over the past month.

“The increase in the dire outlook was driven mainly by Democrats,” the AP noted. “Since Biden’s inauguration, few Republicans have been positive about the direction of the country.”

The ratio of Democrats who believe Biden has got the country moving in the right direction fell from 49 percent last month to just 33 percent now.

Democrats are also driving the nation’s increasingly sour mood on the economy, the AP noted. Now, 78 percent are pessimistic about the national economy, up from 70 percent last month. Behind that rise is the collapse of faith in Biden among Democrats, as just 35 percent of Democrats say the economy is good, compared to 47 percent in AP’s survey last month.

The stubbornly high inflation rate is driving Biden’s decline on this front.

At least nine of every 10 Americans are extremely or somewhat worried about inflation’s effect on the following items: gas, food, and other goods and services.

“Just 18% of Americans say Biden’s policies have done more to help than hurt the economy, down slightly from 24% in March,” the AP noted.

The AP poll is more unforgiving of Biden than others.

For example, the Real Clear Politics average of eight major national polls – excluding the AP/NORC – has Biden at 41 percent approval, and 68 percent saying the country is on the wrong track.
