LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A 42-year-old Cape Coral man is behind bars after a state investigation into online file-sharing networks led authorities to his front door. Robert Carrion was taken into custody on April 8 and now faces 25 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The investigation kicked off in early March when FDLE agents began monitoring a peer-to-peer network used for sharing digital files.
During that operation, investigators flagged a specific device that was actively downloading media depicting the sexual abuse of children. Tech experts eventually traced that hardware back to Carrion’s residence.

By March 25, the FDLE moved in to execute a search warrant. Joined by officers from the Cape Coral Police Department and federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations, authorities combed through the home and seized several electronic devices.
Forensic specialists later analyzed the hardware, reportedly discovering hundreds of prohibited files.
Following the digital discovery, Carrion was picked up by local and state officers and booked into the Lee County Jail. While the arrest has been made, the FDLE noted that the investigation is still active. The case is now in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.
