ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 47-year-old woman died early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle while using a marked crosswalk at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South and 15th Avenue South, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. Police said a dark-colored sedan was heading south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South when it hit the pedestrian as she was walking west across the intersection.
The vehicle did not stop to render aid and fled the scene immediately after the impact.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where medical personnel later pronounced her dead.
The St. Petersburg Police Department has an active investigation underway and is asking for the public’s help to locate the driver or vehicle involved.
