Estimated insured losses from Hurricane Nicole have topped $500 million, with the largest numbers of claims in Orange and Volusia counties, according to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

Data posted on the office’s website said estimated insured losses totaled $506.7 million as of Thursday. The Category 1 hurricane made landfall on Nov. 10 near Vero Beach.

The data said 47,698 claims had been filed as of Thursday, including 34,725 involving residential property. Other types of claims involved such things as auto damage and commercial property damage.

Orange County had the largest number of claims, at 4,890, followed by Volusia County, at 4,785.

More than 82 percent of claims had been closed, with 23,825 closed with payments made and 15,474 closed without payments, according to the data.
