HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A series of collisions on southbound I-75 early Sunday morning resulted in serious injuries for an 18-year-old Riverview man. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at 4:39 AM near milepost 241.
The teenager was operating a Kia Optima southbound when he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer driven by a 41-year-old Riverview man. During the maneuver, the driver of the Kia lost control, and the vehicle rotated before striking the truck.
The tractor-trailer reached a controlled stop on the shoulder, while the Kia remained in the center lane of the interstate.
Following the first impact, the 18-year-old exited the Kia and was standing in the roadway. A Ford Explorer, driven by a 75-year-old Wimauma man, then collided with the stationary Kia.
