NewsNation host Chris Cuomo didn’t hold back during a Tuesday episode of “The Chris Cuomo Project,” telling progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen that he struggles to see genuine patriotism in the modern left wing of the Democratic Party.
Specifically targeting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cuomo drew a sharp contrast between her political brand and the patriotism of his late father, former New York Governor Mario Cuomo. He noted that while his father faced discrimination and was treated as an “ethnic” outsider, he still “loved the f—ing country.”

Cuomo argued that this foundational appreciation is missing from the current progressive movement.
“I don’t believe AOC — any of your horses — I have a hard time believing they love the country,” Cuomo told Cohen. “I think they hate more about it than they love about it. And that may be unfair. But if it is unfair, it’s because of how they’ve made their own case about themselves.”
When Cohen countered that criticizing the government is a necessary form of patriotism, Cuomo agreed in principle but questioned the balance of the Democrats’ messaging. He pressed Cohen on why the American flag has effectively become a symbol for the GOP and challenged him to recall the last time a leading Democrat publicly praised the United States.

The debate touches on a widening divide in national sentiment; a recent Harvard Youth Poll indicates that only 24% of Democrats under 30 feel proud to be American, while more than half say they are embarrassed by it.
