TAMPA, Fla. – A Tampa man faces a first-degree murder charge after authorities say a 911 dispatcher overheard his girlfriend’s final moments during a fatal stabbing on Friday afternoon.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Kyle Sanchez at the scene. He is accused of killing his girlfriend, 37-year-old Amanda Roark, inside the three-story home they shared.
Deputies initially responded to the residence around 3 p.m. following a 911 call. According to court documents, the dispatcher could hear a woman begging her attacker for her life.
“Please stop,” Roark said during the recorded call, according to the documents. “You’re f***ing killing me.”
Part of the call was inaudible, preventing the dispatcher from immediately gathering details or an exact address to send help.
Roughly ten minutes later, Sanchez placed a separate call to 911, confirming there was an emergency at the home. When the dispatcher asked what the emergency was, Sanchez replied, “Um, I murdered my girlfriend,” according to the court records.
Sanchez told the dispatcher that Roark was “beyond help.” When asked what led to the incident, he stated that he had “a very unfriendly urge” and grabbed a knife.
When police arrived at the home, Sanchez opened the door. Officers reported that he was covered in blood.
Inside the residence, authorities found Roark dead with multiple stab wounds and cuts. She had numerous defensive wounds on her hands and a deep laceration on the left side of her neck. Investigators noted blood on the doors, walls, and furniture throughout all three floors of the home.
Roark was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court documents accuse Sanchez of stabbing Roark to death “unlawfully, intentionally and with premeditation.” He was charged with first-degree murder and denied bond. A pretrial detention hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday.
