Man Faces Years Behind Bars for Threat Posted Alongside Assassination Attempt Photo
A 52-year-old Texas man has admitted to a chilling social media threat against Donald Trump, pleading guilty to federal charges after posting a comment that referenced the previous attempt on the president’s life.
Robert Herrera now faces up to five years in prison and a substantial fine.
The threat was made on a Facebook post from a local news outlet about Trump’s planned visit to Texas. Using the handle “Robert Herrer,” Herrera commented, “I won’t miss.”

The comment was accompanied by a photograph of Trump surrounded by Secret Service agents during the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a sniper’s bullet grazed his ear.
Court documents also reveal that Herrera escalated the threat in a subsequent exchange with another user. When a user replied, “you won’t get the chance, I promise,” Herrera responded with “I’ll just come for you” and a photograph of an assault rifle with loaded magazines.

Authorities, including the U.S. Secret Service, FBI, and San Antonio Police Department, swiftly located and arrested Herrera on the same day the threats were made. The FBI’s Special Agent in Charge, Aaron Tapp, emphasized that while the right to free speech is protected, threatening violence is a federal crime.
Herrera appeared before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth S. Chestney of the Western District of Texas to formally enter his guilty plea. A sentencing date has not yet been announced.
