Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged an immigration detainer for Jashanpreet Singh, an Indian national, following his arrest in San Bernardino County, California, on charges stemming from a deadly DUI crash that claimed the lives of three people and injured several others.

Details of the Incident and Charges

On October 22, local authorities arrested Singh after the multi-victim crash. He faces serious charges, including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence (DUI). Dash camera footage reportedly captured the collision.

The detainer, lodged by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), requests that local law enforcement notify ICE before Singh is released from custody so that the agency can take him into immigration custody.

Immigration Status and Official Response

ICE officials have identified Singh as a criminal illegal alien who first entered the U.S. in 2022 through the southern border and was subsequently released into the country.

Andre Quinones, Acting Field Office Director for Los Angeles ERO, issued a strong statement regarding the incident.

“Loopholes that allow illegal aliens to operate deadly commercial vehicles on the streets of the United States must be closed immediately,” Quinones stated. “Tragedies like this are 100% preventable, and we will ensure that those who break our laws and endanger lives are held accountable. Criminals like Jashanpreet Singh will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and removed from our country to protect the safety of the American people.”

Pattern of Illegal Alien Commercial Driving Incidents

This tragedy follows what DHS law enforcement is calling a “disturbing pattern” of criminal illegal aliens driving commercial vehicles on American roads. Earlier this week, ICE lodged a separate detainer for an individual operating a semi-truck who struck and killed another driver. DHS law enforcement stated that they are working to protect American communities from such tragedies. Victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens may seek support from the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office by calling 1-855-488-6423.
