A terrifying saga of international abduction has ended in a major victory for law enforcement, as a three-year-old Alabama child, snatched by her mother, was safely rescued in Mexico and reunited with her father in the U.S. However, the details emerging from the investigation are nothing short of shocking, revealing a chilling link between the kidnapper and a known, dangerous sex offender.

ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), working hand-in-hand with U.S. and Mexican authorities, successfully located and apprehended Haley Harris, who had allegedly kidnapped the child and fled across the border in a desperate attempt to evade justice.

Harris was arrested on September 28th and extradited back to the United States to face federal charges of international parental kidnapping.

The Disturbing Connection

The gravest concern was revealed during the investigation into Harris’s time on the run. Authorities discovered that the alleged abductor was in repeated and extensive contact with her boyfriend, Pedro Pedraza-Trejo, a man who is an illegal alien and faces pending charges for horrific crimes, including child molestation and rape, in Washington State.

According to officials, Harris contacted Pedraza-Trejo 193 times in the span of just a few days while illegally holding the young child.

“The fact that Harris maintained repeated contact with Pedraza-Trejo, a man convicted of such vile crimes, while illegally holding her child, underscores the gravity of her actions and the danger she posed to the child’s safety,” said a source close to the investigation.

International Cooperation Secures Safe Return

“This case highlights the power of collaboration between U.S. and international law enforcement agencies,” said Steven N. Schrank, Special Agent in Charge of HSI in Georgia and Alabama. “Thanks to the swift and decisive actions of our dedicated agents and partners, a child has been safely reunited with her family, and the individual responsible will face the consequences of her actions.”

The child was flown back to the U.S. on October 4th, arriving at Atlanta International Airport, where she was finally and safely reunited with her father.

Harris is currently facing federal charges, and the investigation remains active as authorities continue to process the full scope of her actions and the danger she put the child in.
