POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Two 20-year-old twin sisters from Davenport are facing identical misdemeanor charges after allegedly shoplifting from a Target store on Tuesday morning and inadvertently tipping off deputies during the investigation.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ty’Lonah Wooden and Ty’Leyah Wooden following an incident at the Davenport Target on June 16. According to authorities, store security spotted the sisters placing merchandise into a black backpack they had brought into the store around 9:55 a.m.
Loss prevention staff tried to stop the pair at the exit, but the sisters fled the building with the items. The total value of the stolen merchandise was reported at $132.88.
Deputies later tracked the sisters to their Davenport residence. Upon arrival, before the deputy could mention the Target store or the reason for the investigation, one of the twins quickly blurted out a denial, stating they had ‘not stolen anything from Target.’
Following a search of the home, deputies recovered some of the stolen items, though not all of the merchandise was found.
Both sisters were taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. They each face first-degree misdemeanor charges of retail petit theft and resisting a merchant attempting to retrieve property.
