Illinois Gov. Pritzker Breaks Silence On Kamala 2028 Run: “31 Flavors” And Fair Primary

As Governor J.B. Pritzker wrapped up a press conference on Friday, April 10, 2026, a reporter’s final question shifted the focus from Illinois politics to the national stage: Should Kamala Harris run for president again?

Pritzker’s response was immediate and supportive, though he emphasized the importance of a traditional primary process.

“Of course she has every ability, every right to run, and indeed I think she’s very popular with quite a lot of people,” Pritzker stated, noting that her voice remains “very important” to the political landscape.

However, the Governor was quick to point out that any future run should go through a standard primary. He reflected on Harris’s previous path to the nomination, which she famously detailed in her book as “the 107 days.”

Pritzker argued that it was “a little unfair to judge her just based on that,” explaining that the circumstances at the time didn’t allow for a traditional state-by-state primary.

Looking ahead to 2028, Pritzker expressed a desire for a broad field of candidates.

“I think we should hear from all the voices of people who want to run and then make a decision—all of us—about who’s the best person among… the 31 flavors,” he said, using a lighthearted metaphor for a diverse pool of contenders.

The Governor’s comments come as political circles begin to speculate on the 2028 presidential race, with Pritzker himself often mentioned as a potential candidate.
