“I’m Glad He’s Dead”: Trump Reacts To Death Of Former FBI Director Robert Mueller

President Donald Trump sparked immediate controversy Saturday with a blunt response to the death of former FBI Director Robert Mueller, who passed away Friday at the age of 81. Mueller, who led the high-stakes investigation into Russian interference during Trump’s first term, had been privately battling Parkinson’s disease for several years.

Writing on Truth Social on Saturday afternoon, President Trump did not offer the traditional condolences usually extended to former high-ranking officials.

“Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead,” the President posted to his followers. “He can no longer hurt innocent people!”

The animosity stems from Mueller’s 22-month tenure as Special Counsel, a period Trump frequently characterized as a “witch hunt.”

Despite the intense political friction, Mueller’s final 448-page report ultimately stated that the office “did not find evidence likely to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Campaign officials such as Paul Manafort, George Papadopoulos, and Carter Page acted as agents of the Russian government.”

The report also noted that after evaluating various contacts under federal conspiracy laws, the office “did not pursue charges under these statutes against any of the individuals discussed,” with the exception of specific financial and foreign agent charges against Manafort and Richard Gates related to Ukraine.

Mueller’s passing followed a period of declining health that had only recently become public. His family confirmed to The New York Times on August 31, 2025, that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2021.

According to the family, Mueller retired from legal practice that same year and finished a brief teaching stint at his alma mater in late 2022. “His family asks that his privacy be respected,” the statement concluded.

The former FBI Director’s health had become a point of contention earlier in August 2025 when he was subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee regarding the FBI’s past handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.

Reports suggest that Mueller had been in a memory care facility for some time. Shortly after the subpoena was issued, a committee spokesperson told The Daily Caller they were withdrawing the request because “Mr. Mueller has health issues that preclude him from being able to testify.”

Mueller served as the head of the FBI from 2001 to 2013, a term that spanned the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and made him the longest-serving director since J. Edgar Hoover.

While his career was marked by decades of bipartisan service under both Republican and Democratic administrations, his final years were defined by the polarizing investigation into the Trump administration and the subsequent fallout that continued until his death.
