KEY LARGO, Fla. – A dispute over car keys and insurance policies escalated into felony charges for a Key Largo teenager on Friday night, after authorities say he threatened to destroy his family’s home and texted a photo of a firearm to his mother.
Jarek Ryszard Widelski, 19, was arrested on January 9 and charged with threats and extortion following the incident on Marina Avenue.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the residence around 7 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute. The investigation revealed the argument began when Widelski’s mother refused to hand over the keys to a vehicle because her son was not covered by the insurance policy.

After the victim left the residence, Widelski reportedly began sending threatening text messages, vowing to damage the home. Investigators say he included a photograph of what appeared to be a black handgun with a magazine full of live ammunition. He allegedly instructed his mother to call the police, telling her he was “waiting.”
Upon returning to the property, the victim discovered broken doors and a damaged television.
During a search of the home, deputies located a Glock replica airsoft handgun. While the firearm turned out to be a replica, the ammunition found on the scene was real. Authorities recovered two loaded .223 rifle magazines, along with various bags and loose rounds of 9mm, .45-caliber, and rifle ammunition.
Widelski was already on probation at the time of his arrest, stemming from a 2024 road rage incident in which he pleaded guilty to improper exhibition of a firearm.
He was booked into jail, and the Sheriff’s Office noted that additional charges may be pending.
