An Indianapolis man is behind bars today after a homeowner returned to his Cannon Royal Drive residence Wednesday evening to find a stranger living inside. Christopher Lee Sickels, 55, was arrested on March 11, 2026, and faces a burglary charge following the encounter in the Shark Key community.

The situation unfolded around 7:14 p.m. when the homeowner walked into the house and confronted Sickels. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Sickels immediately fled the scene on foot.

Deputies arriving in the area began a search and located him a short distance away.

Investigators confirmed the homeowner did not know Sickels and had never given him permission to enter or stay at the property. Once inside, deputies noted that belongings and cabinets had been “ravaged through” during the days Sickels occupied the home.

Records show this isn’t the suspect’s first run-in with Florida law enforcement this year.

The Key West Police Department previously arrested Sickels in January on a charge of grand theft of a firearm. Following this latest incident, Sickels was transported to the local jail for processing.
