Quick-Spreading Blaze Challenges Firefighters, Prompts Two-Alarm Response
TAMPA, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) battled a significant two-alarm fire at a salvage yard on 6330 Jensen Road in Tampa this afternoon, which resulted in one civilian being transported to a trauma center with serious burn injuries. The blaze, reported at 3:14 PM, quickly escalated from a forklift fire to engulf approximately twenty vehicles.
Multiple 911 calls alerted authorities to the rapidly spreading flames. Upon arrival, first-responding crews were met with intense fire conditions. Due to the scale of the incident and the rapid involvement of numerous vehicles, a second alarm was swiftly issued to bring in additional resources and personnel.

Firefighters initially faced challenges with water supply but were able to establish a continuous flow, enabling the deployment of two aerial trucks to suppress the fire from above. At approximately one hour into operations, HCFR declared the fire largely under control. However, aerial operations were temporarily suspended due to lightning in the area, a testament to the dynamic and challenging conditions faced by responders.
Despite the suspension of aerial efforts, ground crews continued aggressive suppression, including the use of firefighting foam to extinguish lingering hotspots and ensure complete extinguishment.
One civilian was transported to a local trauma center in serious condition with burn injuries. No injuries to first responders were reported.
